Needs Assessment

At the completion of this activity participants should be able to:

  1. Overview the various shock states and discuss current treatment modalities and management of each.
  2. Analyze the state of electronic medical records and how it can improve patient care.
  3. Identify new advancements in cardiovascular emergent care.
  4. Understand the roles of health care providers in a mass casualty incident.
  5. Critically analyze important papers in the trauma literature that have changed clinical practice over the last several years.
  6. Inform health care providers about novel methods in dealing with patients who over-utilize Emergency Department resources by manifesting drug-seeking behavior, as well as a brief review of up and coming street drugs such as "Spice" and "Bath Salts."
  7. Identify the role of the forensic nurse examiner in the Emergency Department.
  8. Identify surgical options for heart failure treatment, specifically ventricular assist device support.
  9. Understand the mechanism of action of new antiplatelet and anticoagulant medications used in cardiology.
  10. Address Emergency Department overcrowding and the real effects of diversion.
  11. Explore a myriad of clinical problems in the Emergency Department.
